The Instagram app now allows you to see when your contact was last online in the Direct messages section. In this guide, you will learn how to disable Instagram Activity Status or ‘Last Seen’ on Android devices.
Facebook-owned Instagram is finally getting a feature that not many users may adore. Just like WhatsApp, now your friends on Instagram can tell when was the last time that you were online, and vice-versa. Well as convenient this feature may sound, it could really be troublesome in certain situations. The feature certainly dropped in for a bunch of users at first and is now widely rolling out to others as well, both on Android and iOS platforms. For those who really don’t need it, can follow the few simple steps below to disable Instagram Activity Status on Android.

It seems like Instagram is working on making its “Direct” feature more functional and to be used by users as a primary way to communicate with each other. According to Refinery29, an Instagram spokesperson stated – “We’re constantly working on ways to make Direct the best place to have fun, real-time conversations with friends. We’ve heard from our community that the ability to see when friends were last active helps them feel more connected as they go back and forth in Direct.”
Well, of course, we are not sure how true is that for users in the real scenario. We often skip our notifications, and this feature may just prevent us from even opening the app, to avoid those awkward situations. No worries! The app also has a swift toggle that would allow you to easily disable Instagram Activity Status. Note that, the switch works for both ends. So if you have hidden Last Seen on Instagram, then you would not be able to see the activity status of others as well.
How to Disable Instagram Activity Status or Last Seen on Android
It’s quite simple to disable Last Seen on Instagram, just follow the steps below.
- Open ‘Instagram’ on your Android phone.
- Go to the profile tab in the bottom navigation menu.
- On your profile page, tap the menu icon (3 dots) on the top-right of the app screen.
- The ‘Options’ screen will open up.
- Scroll down to the ‘Settings’ section and find the ‘Show Activity Status’ toggle.
- This setting is enabled by default.
- So turn off the toggle to disable Instagram Activity Status for your account.
Note that once disabled, you also wouldn’t be able to view the Last Online status of your contacts on Instagram. That sounds quite fair, right?
We are not sure if this new feature has been permanently implemented or is in the testing phase. Well, whatever be the case if you don’t want your acquaintances to know when was the last time you used the app, and probably didn’t reply to their pings, then this simple option might just be your savior.
