After a short series of Open Beta builds and constant fixes, OnePlus is finally rolling out the stable version of OxygenOS for the 5T. The release is just on time like the OEM promised during the launch event in November. We recently saw Open Beta 3 update, which indicated that the final release was imminent. Well, we didn’t anticipate that it was going to happen this quick. The overall aim of this update is to bring a more stable environment for its users. Both the OnePlus 5 and 5T are receiving this update over-the-air. The rollout is incremental, which means the expected time of arrival for the OTA is unpredictable. If you wish to install OxygenOS 5.0.2 on OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 right now, then the instructions below will help you with that.
OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T OxygenOS 5.0.2 Update – Changes & New Features
OnePlus 5 has already been updated to Oreo in late December. Even though Android 8.0 Oreo has been available for the 5T through Open Beta, it was still not a favorable choice for day-to-day users. Any experimental features included in the latest Open Beta are currently not present in the stable update. The manufacturer prefers to deliver thoroughly tested features, which would be able to provide the best experience in terms of functionality, performance, and battery life.
OnePlus staff member Adam Krisko made the official announcement at the community forums (1, 2). As the official statement goes, the incremental roll-out is already in progress. Before you head down to install OxygenOS 5.0.2 on OnePlus 5T/5, take a quick look at the changes below.
The OnePlus 5T is now finally upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo with a new Quick Settings design. Both the devices have been updated with the latest OnePlus system apps. Also, a fix has been implemented to prevent the devices from Spectre-style attacks (CVE-2017-13218).
OnePlus 5 has some additional perks with this latest update, including the 5T- exclusive Face Unlock feature and improved Electronic Image Stabilization while video recording. On a whole, there has also been several bug fixes and overall improvements to the system.
That’s pretty much everything you can expect from this new build. If your device is running the previous stable OOS firmware, then go to ‘Settings’ -> ‘System updates’ and check for the OTA notification. If you do not wish to wait or running Open Beta, then follow the steps below to install OxygenOS 5.0.2 on OnePlus 5T/OnePlus 5 right now.
