Nokia is back! Thanks to the Finnish startup HMD Global. And while some people are spending time proving that HMD is no Nokia, the Finnish startup has been very busy working behind the scene to bring the latest Nokia phones to the market. Before 2018 say goodbye for good, HMD is on for yet another unveiling. This time, it’s happening in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Dubai. Well, definitely not the first time for Nokia.
But ahead of the official launch tomorrow, December 5, one of the highly anticipated devices, the Nokia 8.1, leaks in all its glory. The promotional video, while not revealing some definitive specification of the device, has showcased its capabilities.
This time around, the handset focus more on its camera skills. Like most of the top-tier handsets from HMD, the Nokia 8.1 boasts a premium ZEISS optics. The promotional video also mentioned the OIS (optical image stabilization), which means the device has a great emphasis on low-light shooting. On the front, there is a so-called “AI portrait” which we suppose is just a fancier term for artificial bokeh, and automatic scene recognition.
Next up is the PureDisplay screen which will deliver a real-time SDR to HDR content conversion via 16-bit pipeline. The display will also support HDR10 content, with DCI-P3 support. Earlier, we have seen HMD implementing the technology on a much cheaper Nokia 7.1. This will be a recurring feature for Nokia phones in the future which is a good thing.
Apart from that, there’s no mention of any other specs. But reading the previous leaks, we all know that this device will come with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 710.
