OnePlus 7 News: First leaked image shows Display without a Notch

First OnePlus Leaked Image

The first image of the alleged OnePlus 7 has leaked online. In this post, we will be covering all the news and rumors about the upcoming OnePlus 7 flagship.

OnePlus have had a rocking time in the Android smartphone market since its first device. Ever since the OnePlus 3 and 3T, the manufacturer has released two devices every year. The latter being an improved version of the former that brings changes to the design, hardware, and even the software. Even though there is no official word or statement, but OnePlus might already have begun working on its new flagship for the year 2019.

With that in mind, we are quite sure that leaks and rumors about the new phone’s (Allegedly the OnePlus 7) design, hardware, and specs would start flooding online. And so in this post, we will keep a track of all OnePlus 7 News, Leaks, and Rumors that we shall see in the coming time.

12 Jan 2019: First OnePlus 7 Image Leaks Online

As posted on SlashLeaks, the first OnePlus 7 image has now surfaced, showcasing a full-immersive design without a notch.

As you can observe in the image above, the OnePlus 7 prototype sits aside the OnePlus 6T and clearly shows us how it is different than its predecessor. We do feel that the image could be an example of good Photoshop-ing skills, so you should take it information as a pinch of salt.

But if it really is authentic, then we might just be seeing the best Android phone of 2019. Starting off with the top, the phone might have very slim bezels, something that doesn’t really seems impossible with the available technology. The next thing and probably the first one that you might have instantly noticed about the OnePlus 7 notch, as there is NONE!

Since there’s not even an in-display cutout on the display for the front camera, we can conclude two possibilities:

  1. The front camera lens would be present on the bottom bezel: This will be really bad! We have already seen Xiaomi doing it with the Mi Mix and Mix 2, and most users didn’t really brace the change. Xiaomi even changed that with the Mix 3. If that’s so, then you’d probably need to hold the phone really up high to take a selfie.
  2. The OnePlus 7 will have a sliding camera mechanism: Now this seems more convincing. The Oppo Find X already has this sliding mechanism and since Oppo is the parent company, it could really be happening. This would mean that the selfie camera will still stay at the top, and shouldn’t be hindering the camera experience like in the first assumption.

Now, this seems like a pretty bold move for the smartphone industry. Except for Oppo, Vivo, Honor, Lenovo, and Xiaomi, no other major Android smartphone manufacturer has really embraced this new mechanism. Since OnePlus maintains a good standard for design, then the sliding mechanism in OnePlus 7 would really be significant.

There’s also a speaker grill (Probably) on the top, which is wider than what we saw on the OnePlus 6T. The OnePlus 7 leaked image shows the Android AOSP wallpaper, which means it is probably currently running a Generic System Image of the OS based on OxygenOS.

That’s all we have for now about the OnePlus 7. If there are more news, leaks, and rumors about the phone, we will be updating this post. Following OnePlus’ conventional release timings with its previous phones, the OnePlus 7 could be released between May to June 2019.
