Installing OTA updates manually is fairly safe until you somehow manage to deviate yourself from the instructions. We shall not be held liable for any damage to your device.

OnePlus X OxygenOS 2.2.1

Prerequisites

Before you begin with the instructions, make sure to take a complete backup of your device, including the internal storage, messages, contacts, and everything else that you feel necessary. Also, charge your OPX to at least 60% battery level, to avoid any disturbances during the process.

The update requires your device to be completely stock on OxygenOS 2.2.0. While a few people have been able to flash this via TWRP too, but some have failed too. So the confirmed working method is by flashing this OTA update through the stock OnePlus recovery.

Instructions

  1. Download OnePlus X OxygenOS 2.2.1 OTA package: Download link
  2. Now, connect your OnePlus X to the PC, and enable MTP mode.
  3. Transfer the OTA zip ‘OnePlusOxygen_14_OTA_009-010_patch_201604021001_54d6bba8f7d84502.zip’ file, to the root (directly into the storage and not in any folder) of the internal storage. The file could be transferred anywhere, but we prefer the root directory, since it will make easy for you to find the file.
  4. You can disconnect the device now, and power it off completely.
  5. Reboot your OPX into stock recovery mode — When the device is completely off, press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys until you see the OnePlus logo. You can release the keys once you see the logo.
  6. Now when the recovery boots, choose your language as English.
  7. Tap on ‘Install from local’, from the OnePlus Recovery main-screen. Browse your OPX’s internal storage and select the OTA zip file (OnePlusOxygen_14_OTA_009-010_patch_201604021001_54d6bba8f7d84502.zip‘).
  8. Tap on ‘Yes’, when prompted.
