Oppo has quietly unveiled the Oppo R17 smartphone in China via Weibo today. The smartphone now listed on Oppo stores in China, and will officially hit shelves on August 18. The listing didn’t reveal a detailed rundown of the specs, but it did mention some of the key features. The listing also shares the booking availability which will go live by 10:00 am, local time in China.

As per the specs, the smartphone will have a large 6.4-inch display with a notch Oppo calls “waterdrop”. It does make sense as it really looks like a waterdrop. It also smaller than its predecessor with Oppo claiming a 91.5 percent screen-to-body ratio. Oppo didn’t confirm the chipset inside the device, other than the claim they made that it is built in the 10nm process. Others speculate that it might be the fresh Qualcomm Snapdragon 670, coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB expandable internal storage.

So we won’t be ending without mentioning one thing: AI Camera. Apparently, the device will come with 25-megapixel AI selfie camera (I bet, just a normal camera with beauty feature), and an undisclosed dual AI camera on the rear.

Interestingly (and perhaps the selling point of this device): in-display fingerprint sensor. The new Oppo R17 will be one of the first smartphones to feature an in-display fingerprint technology. This could also hint that the handset will come with AMOLED display instead of LCD as it is a major requirement for an in-display fingerprint sensor.
The Oppo R17 will run on Oppo’s ColorOS 5.2, 3,500mAh of battery and support for VOOC fast charging. The device will carry a decent price tag at about 3,000 Chinese yuan. Color choices include a Stream Blue and Neon Purple.
