ZenFone Max M2 update brings EIS to the front camera, Android Pie to follow!

ASUS’s latest midranger, the ZenFone Max M2, starts receiving what probably be it’s last Android 8.1 Oreo update. The handset, which launched last December, is ASUS’s take on the Xiaomi Mi A2, Realme 2 Pro, and Nokia 6.1 Plus. It is run by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 632, but ships with Android 8.1 Oreo. ASUS, however, promise at the stage that the device will get an Android Pie update this month.

The new Android 8.1 Oreo roll-out, 15.2016.1812.179, promises an improved camera interface on two Max M2 variants: ZB630KL, ZB631KL. These two variants will also receive an upgrade for touch firmware, fix text translation, and FM Radio noise issue. The update also includes December 2018 security patch.

The two Max M2 variants, ZB632KL and ZB633KL, on the other hand, receives a different update. The version 15.2016.1812.145 brings camera improvement, and better fingerprint registration. The front camera now also enables EIS for smoother videos. These two variants also contain the December security patch.

The ASUS ZenFone Max M2 has a 6.26-inch HD+ IPS LCD display in 19:9 aspect ratio. The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 is coupled with either 3/4GB of RAM, and up to 64GB of expandable internal storage. For the imaging, 13+2-megapixel cameras grace the rear with the main having faster f/1.8 lens. It can also shoot 4k UHD at 30fps. The selfie camera is an 8-megapixel f/2.0 and can record up to 1080p at 30fps. Keeping the lights on is a 4000mAh battery which is sufficient enough to last a day.
