Hello Android users! Welcome to TCD (The Custom Droid).
This is Dhananjay Bhardwaj, the founder, maintainer, and author of TheCustomDroid.com. On this page, you will find information about this website, its purpose, how it started, and also something about me.
ABOUT THIS BLOG
I started off this blog/website back in 2017 with the aim to help users get the best out of their Android devices through various ways and levels of OS customization. Here, I mostly cover How-To Tutorials on Android basics, general tips and tricks, bootloader unlocking, rooting, custom recovery, software updates, custom ROMs, and more. That’s quite a lot, but as I mentioned, it’s all about helping you customize the software of your Android device in different ways.
I would like to call this blog and myself user-orientated. That’s because I focus on what the readers (Mostly Android users) are looking for. If you have an Android device, irrespective of its make, price, and specs, I will try to have it all covered on TheCustomDroid.com. If you do feel like we don’t have something particular covered here, you can always contact me and let me know. You ask for it, I do it!
As of now, I manage everything here on TCD. This includes curating new posts and updating old ones, and replying to your questions via the comments or emails, all while trying to maintain a good user experience.
My primary goal and that of TCD is and always will be to help other Android users customize their device to there liking, regardless if they are new to the modding scene (a novice) or already experienced. The vision is to grow The Custom Droid to a point where it becomes a go-to resource hub for users who want to play around with their Android device’s software.
If you share the same goal and vision, we would love to have you on board as an author. Interested? Visit this page for more information.
I was born and raised in the capital of Delhi, India. I have always been very fond of technology in general ever since my high school days and still remember watching tech shows on the TV. It was back in 2010 when I started smartphone modding with my Nokia 5233 (Symbian OS), where initially I was just flashing custom firmware (CFW) and later started making them too.
I bought my first Android smartphone, the LG Optimus One P500 in 2011 and got myself deeply indulged in the Android custom development and modding scene by joining XDA-Developers forum. I was completely blown away with the potential that Android had even at that time. I was switching ROMs practically every third day, that’s how excited I was!
During my time on XDA, I learned a lot about Android and even tried my best to help others who needed it. Below, you will find links to some of my work on XDA.
- Custom ROMs
- Step-by-Step rooting guides for Nexus S and Nexus 4
- A center clock status bar mod for Optimus One P500 (It was way popular back then!)
From 2012 – 2016, I also worked as a part-time author at DroidViews.com where I mostly covered tutorials on rooting, custom ROMs, and sometimes even product or ROM reviews. I would like to show my gratitude to Rakesh Shukla, for giving me that chance to write and for helping me mature my skills as a professional blog writer.
Thanks to the XDA community and to my time at DroidViews, my knowledge of Android and its modding in particular has evolved a lot since the past 8 years. As a matter of fact, I am still learning something new every day. By now, I have experience customizing Android devices from various OEMs like Google, OnePlus Samsung, LG, Xiaomi, and many more. With The Custom Droid, I want to share this knowledge and everything that I have learned about Android customization with you, the readers.
SOME FUN FACTS
#1: I got a handheld gaming console (Sony PSP) even before I had my first phone.
#2: I am a Google fanboy. After the LG P500, I switched to the Google Nexus S, followed by the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6P, Pixel 2 XL and now I proudly own the Pixel 3 XL as my primary driver.
#3: I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted all the Android devices I have owned the day I purchased and unboxed them.
THE GUY ON THE BACKEND
Although I work alone on TCD, I have always had my back by the most generous and helpful person I have ever known. His name is Hemant Mudgil. He’s a very experienced developer by profession, and the one currently managing everything on the backend of this blog, including the theme, the servers, and everything else in between.
A huge shout out to him for everything he has done and provided me with since the time I started The Custom Droid. If you too are looking for backend development for your website or any other web projects, you can contact him here.
