LG has been pretty late to the Android Oreo scene. It was back in December 2017, when the manufacturer announced Android Oreo for the LG V30. The new software was first available in LG’s home region – Korea. Over the past months, the update reached out to the Sprint and AT&T users as well. And it was only very recently that users could install Android Oreo on T-Mobile LG V30.

With its new dedicated Global Software Upgrade Center, LG is now picking up the pace. Now some good news for those with the unlocked or US cellular variant (US998). You can now flash Android Oreo update as well. The instructions below will help you install Android Oreo on Unlocked LG V30/V30+.

The V30/V30+ comes in various carrier-branded models, most of which have already received the Android 8.0 Oreo update. It’s quite disappointing that the unlocked variant has to be the last one to get it. Needless to say – “It is better late than never”. There are yet no confirmations about the OTA rollout. But thanks to XDA Recognized Contributor ChazzMatt, we now have hands on the KDZ firmware file. Users with the US Cellular (US998) model can also use the file to manually upgrade the phone.

Installing the file is pretty easy, for those are familiar with the LG UP + Uppercut method, can simply grab the KDZ from below and install it. Users who are not much acquainted with the procedure can simply follow the instructions below to install LG V30/V30+ Android Oreo update.

Requirements

  • Although the process will not wipe the phone, we would still strongly recommend taking a full backup beforehand. You can also follow our Android backup guide for this purpose.
  • Charge the LG phone to a sufficient battery level to avoid any shutdowns during the middle of the flashing process.
  • It is very important to install LG USB drivers on the PC. Without the drivers, the LG UP tool will not detect the phone. Once installed, go to ‘Control Panel’ > ‘Device Manager’ > ‘Ports’ and check that the device is detected as ‘LGE Mobile USB Serial Port’.
  • Download and install LGUP Tool with Uppercut on your PC.

Make sure that you fulfill all the requirements and then only proceed to the steps to install Android Oreo on Unlocked LG V30/V30+.

    1. Hi Evan. There’s no need to use the DLL. The LGUP tool wasn’t launched in an expected manner and that’s why it failed and showed the error. BTW, with Android Pie available, why do you still want to install Oreo, when you can directly go to Pie. You can do so by following the instructions here.

  1. This is the first time I have flashed firmware on to any of my devices and it worked like a charm the first time! Great work!

    1. Hi, I am glad it worked smoothly. Android Pie for the V30/V30+/V30S is available now. Should you need to perform a manual upgrade (Like you did to Oreo), then the download links and instructions could be found here.

  2. Is it necessary to update stepwise (a -> b -> c -> d…) or is it possible to go directly from 99820b to 99820h?

    1. Hi Tom. The case you presented is appicable when you’re sideloading incremental OTA packages. Full firmware images (like KDZ in case of LG) can be flashed to upgrade from any previous software version.

      So, you can directly go from b > h by using this method.

    2. Hello, hopefully you are still replying…I bought second hand from another person my LGV30+…US99810c….which is not even on your list of KDZ files…should I go straight to the latest version of your files? Or need to go one by one till the latest?

  3. I have lg v30 plus us99820a model. Running on android 8.0 oreo but the latedt version for my device is us99820h and android 8.1. I am unable to find oreo update theoug my device or through lg bridge. Lg brigde shows always error which is that unable to check software update for your device.
    Can I update to 8.1 and us99820h using KDZ file from here through lg up?
    Kindly guide ? Thnks

    1. Hi Muhammad. Apologies for the late response. Have you successfully upgraded to Oreo now?

  4. Hi!
    Just one short question:
    Is it possible to go directly from 99820b to 99820h or do I need intermediate steps?

  5. tengo un v30 + desbloqueado, Este KDZ no me quitara la señal del movil, Saludos desde Republica Dominicana

  6. I get this Error in the model us99810d with all the kdz, what do I have to do? Error: 0x2000, US998202_04_0330.kdz file does NOT support “REFURBISH process.

    1. Hi Oliver. It will be when LG actually rolls out the update. According to a report from XDA, the update is expected to be available in June or July 2019. However, nothing is for sure yet.

    2. Hey man! I been trying to update my unlocked LG V30+. LG ain’t any help at all. I’m using my phone on Metro. How did you update yours?

  7. Hello.

    I have an LG V30+

    Software: US99810d

    Hardware: LG-US998

    I am having problems with everything lol.

    Uppercut due to it being a “trojan”

    Also 1Z latest file isnt found.

    1. Hi. I am glad you resolved the issue on your own. And apologies for the delayed response.

    2. Hello i am trying to download android 8.0 to my lg v30 + uspp8 but when I try to lauch the uppercut file it says its a trojan

    3. Hi. Do not worry about it, that’s a false-positive. The developer did explain why it happens here. Simply disable real-time virus protection for a while or exclude the file from your antivirus software to use it.

    1. Yes, it does. I have updated the link with the latest available KDZ, please try now.

  8. Thanks for the post, use it at the beginning to update to oreo but now I want to update again to the last update but it does not let me get this error

    DLL for US99820A is invalid.
    Please, install valid DLL
    package (*. msi). for the
    model.

  9. Greetings, my question is if I install another through this process, will my cell phone receive the update to adroid 9 direct from Lg?

    1. Hi Oliver. Yes, you will receive further updates directly from LG after using this method.

    1. Hi Sam. According to the roadmap available online (Through Korea), the LG V30 would get Pie update in Q2 2019.

    1. Hi Hesham! Glad to know that.

      The antivirus warning could be false-positive. I used Uppercut without any warnings from Kaspersky or Windows Defender. Rest assured, the tool is completely safe and is being used by a lot of users to upgrade/flash their LG devices.

    1. Hi Alina. It doesn’t show any warnings for me. Kaspersky and Windows Defender active at all times for me. A lot of people are using it. It’s from a reputed XDA developer.

    2. Hi. The DLL error will only show up in case you haven’t launched LGUP using UPPERCUT.

      Since you’re talking about Pie, please head over to this post and download the file for your US998 variant. Make sure that you launch LGUP in Developer Mode (see the “Before you proceed” section in that post).

  10. Doesn’t work for me. Not sure what file this error message is referring to.

    Error: 0x81000302, Please
    use latest DLL
    LAF Protocol version is not
    match DLL = 115972424
    Device = 148217888

    This is a device purchased on Amazon from a dealer named Breed. The box sticker lists the device as LG-LS998 but the hardware info lists is as LG-US998.

    1. Hi William. Kindly download this zip file, extract it and move the extracted files to “C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP”. Once done, restart the process and see if it works now.

    2. Hi Dhananjay, I have the same model ls998 turned into us998, do I download this zip file instead of the one on the article for lgup? or uppercut? or just download the zip file on the comment additionally? thank you

    3. Hi Kenny. You must first install LGUP tool by downloading the msi file. Once installed, download UPPERCUT, extract it and run it.

    4. Hi Dhananjay!
      I am having the same problem as a previous poster. I followed your directions and downloaded and extracted the files to C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP. However; I am still getting this:

      Error: 0x81000302, Please
      use latest DLL
      LAF Protocol version is not
      match DLL = 117105876
      Device = 121610272

      I am currently running US9980d version and I wanted to upgrade to US998h. Any suggestions?

      Thank you in Advance!

    5. Hi Nadia. Are you use that you used the UPPERCUT EXE file to launch LGUP tool?

    6. Uppercut would not work for me due to my AV. However; I was able to upgrade my OS from 7 to 8.0 via LGUP as a workaround without any problems. When I tried to upgrade this time that was the error I received….

    7. Hi. The UPPERCUT file being detected as Malware is just a false positive. I and many others at the XDA forum have used it for a long time now. The tool also comes from a recognized developer at the XDA-Developers forum.

      Simply disable the real-time antivirus feature for the time being, then download the file and use it. Once you have used it, you can delete it and re-enable your antivirus.

      As for your question now. Whenever you upgrade, you will need the latest DLL files for your phone. Earlier, when upgrading from 7.0 to 8.0, you might have had them or they weren’t needed at all in that case.

      If it really concerns you, then you can opt for an alternate method. Simply install the LGUP tool provided above. Once installed, download this file, extract it, and copy all the extracted files to ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP’.

      Then, launch the LGUP.exe file and use the program.

  11. Uppercut wouldn’t work for me because of my virus protection, but I downloaded the USB drivers from LG’s website and LGUP worked just fine.

    One question, is the US99820e_02_0910.kdz file the only one I need to install to get all the updates?

    1. Hi Brian! I have updated the KDZ file to the latest available version (US99820g_01_0110.kdz). Please use that one.

  12. This worked for my unlocked LG V30+ US998 like magic. Right after a call to LG where they told me they will not support updating this phone. Thank you!!!

    1. Hi. The update has already started rolling out. I am almost done with the guide for the European H930 model. Which model do you have?

    2. Hi. Did you try rebooting your device as well as the PC? And did you install LGUP and then used UPPERCUT to run the program? Or did you just install and use the LGUP tool?

  13. Hi, I appreciate this lead. I am in the process of returning the LG V30+ that I purchased last week because I cant update the phone. But say I go though with this this process as a last resort, will it void my warranty with LG?

    1. Hi Dexter, you purchased the device from a previous owner or is it a new one from the store?

  14. Thank you for this. I just got the unlocked V30+ this week and have activated with Tracfone. The LG bridge is unable to update my software and I want to use your method. My question is : Do I need to install of the kdz files you list (and , if so, what order) or just the one labeled as “the latest” ? Also, according to the LG site, the listed kdz files are Android security updates and they list USS99820C as the operating system upgrade (July 2018) and I don’t see that here. Can you please help me understand the order of file installation ?

    1. Hi Susan. As far as I know, the files will work with any unlocked V30/V30+, not so sure about the carrier part.

      From what I understand, you have inserted a Tracfone SIM card and if you want, you can switch to another carrier at any time now, am I right? Do let me know if I understood correctly so that I can further answer your question.

    2. Yes, I am currently with Tracfone and bought one of their sim cards. I can easily remove it and go with another carrier. I did finally get a response from LG regarding the automatic update stating that they are working on OTA software upgrades for unlocked phones. They claim it is taking longer because unlocked phone updates need to meet the requirements of so many different carriers. This does make some sense to me and I am willing to wait as long as I know that I will be getting software and security updates. Thanks for your response.

    1. Hi Tom. The latest version available offers the September 2018 security patch. The KDZ file for the same has been added to the download section above.

    1. Hi Timothy. Upon seeing your comment, I did update the download links with the latest version of the KDZ available. However, I apologize that I forgot to mention that to you.

  15. Hi,
    Followed these instructions but got the following message;
    Error: KDZ file is invalid
    H930DS -> US998

    1. Hi Ivan, please let me know the model number of your LG V30. Also mention if the phone is carrier branded or not.

    2. I also have a problem Error: KDZ file is invalid i have v30+ us99820e software actualisation unfortunetly stopted.

    3. Hi. Please download this file, unzip it, and move all the extracted files to “C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP”. After that, connect your phone and launch LG UP exe file. Let me know if it works.

    4. Hello, getting this same error

      Error: KDZ file is invalid
      H931 -> US998

      becuz they KDZ rom link you have provided is i guess US open for generic lg V30 but our set is loaded with H931 rom so it is a miss match

      can you be kind enough to provide
      1. Oreo KDZ Rom for H931 variants
