How to Install Android Pie Update on LG V30/V30+/V30S (All Variants)

How to Manually Install Android Pie Update on LG V30/V30+/V30S

Through this post, you can download and install Android Pie update on LG V30, LG V30+, and LG V30S. This could be done easily by flashing the Android Pie KDZ or TWRP-flashable zip.

Back in 2018, LG announced that it has opened up a Global Software Update Center with an aim to roll out quicker software updates for its smartphones. Despite that, the OEM still managed to stay way far behind when it came to releasing Android Pie update for its devices. Almost all other manufacturers have already rolled out Pie for many of their high-end to entry-level devices.

The company even published a roadmap, which happened to miss out the LG V30, and several other of the OEM’s devices. However, the good news is that the LG V30 Android Pie update is now rolling out and it is also available for the LG V30+ and V30S as well. And like always, the OTA update is being rolled out in phases, and will reach your device depending on the device’s region, carrier, and model.

LG V30/V30+/V30S Android Pie Update - Software Information

Important Note:

It is not possible to currently unlock the phone’s bootloader on Android Pie. If you wish to install TWRP and root LG V30, you must first unlock the bootloader (On Oreo) before upgrading.

If your phone’s bootloader is already unlocked, then it will stay that way even after installing Android Pie update on your LG V30/V30+/V30s using this method.

Before You Proceed

Ensure that all the of the requirements mentioned below are met before you head on to the instructions.

  1. Manually updating your phone may sometimes require you to wipe the data including the internal storage. Although method 1 will help you update your phone without wiping any data, method 2 requires making a full wipe of all the data stored on the phone, including the internal storage. So, make sure that you take a complete backup first.
  2. Charge your LG V30 to a sufficient battery level. This will avoid any sudden shutdowns during the update process.
  3. Download and install the latest LG Mobile USB Drivers on your PC.
  4. (For Method 1 only) You must install the patched LGUP tool with support for developer mode on your PC. To do so, follow the list of steps below:
    • Download the ‘‘ file on your PC.
    • Extract the zip file to a suitable location.
    • Run the ‘LGUP_Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3.msi’ executable file and install LGUP tool on your PC.
    • Once installed, go to the extracted folder, right-click on ‘SetDev.bat’ file.
    • Select ‘Run as administrator’ to set the LGUP tool to Developer Mode.
    • Now, when you’re asked to launch the LGUP tool in the instructions below, simply launch it using the desktop shortcut.
  5. (For Method 2 only): Make sure that you unlock the bootloader and install TWRP recovery on your LG V30/V30+/V30S first.

Facing an unusual lag after upgrading to Android Pie?

XDA member thefpspower found a very simple solution that can help you fix the said issue easily. Simply download and install the LG Bridge software on your Windows/macOS PC. Then connect your phone to the PC and use it to take a backup. Once you have taken a backup, the issue will be fixed.

There’s no need to restore the backup unless needed in the future. This seems like a strange solution, but it works for sure. Thanks to our reader Ron for the tip!

Method 2: By Flashing Android Pie TWRP-Flashable Zip

  1. Download the Android Pie TWRP-flashable zip, latest Magisk installer zip, and on the PC.
  2. Connect your LG V30 to the PC and transfer all the downloaded files to the phone’s storage.
  3. Now, boot your LG V30 into TWRP recovery mode.
  4. Go to the ‘Wipe‘ menu in TWRP and swipe the ‘Swipe to Factory Reset‘ button to perform a factory reset.
Install Android Pie TWRP-Flashable zip on LG V30/V30+/V30S - Perform a factory reset

  9. When the flashing process finishes, go back to the ‘Wipe‘ menu in TWRP.
  10. Tap on ‘Format Data‘ and enter ‘yes‘ in the provided field.
    • Note that this step will completely format and erase all the data stored on your phone, including the internal storage.
Format Data in TWRP on LG V30/V30+/V30S
  11. Go to the Reboot menu and tap on ‘Recovery‘ to reboot your LG V30 back into TWRP recovery mode.
  12. Now, go to the ‘Mount‘ menu in TWRP and tap on the ‘Enable MTP‘ button.
  13. Connect your phone to the PC using the USB cable.
  14. Transfer the Magisk installer zip file to the phone’s storage (The file was deleted when you formatted data during step #10 above).
  15. Once the file has been transferred, go to the ‘Install’ menu and flash it.
  16. Finally, tap on the ‘Reboot System‘ button.

That’s it!

Now that you have installed the Android Pie update on your phone, go ahead and explore the new features that it offers. There are tons of new features forked into the OS now, most of which are powered by AI technology to adapt to your usage.

Although LG has arrived quite late with Pie for the LG V30, it has definitely arrived for the good. The update seems quite stable and free of any major bugs.

So, this was our tutorial on how to manually install Android Pie update on LG V30, LG V30+, and LG V30S. Again, a huge thanks to XDA RC ChazzMatt and other forum members who have contributed with the firmware files. If you have any questions regarding the procedure, feel free to drop a comment below.

    1. Which variant is it Brad? Please share the model number of your LG V30.

  1. Best guide on the Net but some of us like me encounter this. Those of us the use LGup to restore phone, accidently chose refurbish instead of upgrade. You’ll get encrypted data. ( So after you get twrp installed and launch for first time, it’ll popup asking for password, so skip that cancel back etc. )Once in menu Wipe‘ menu in TWRP and swipe the ‘Swipe to Factory Reset‘. follow the the guide from there on, wipe menu then data etc.

    1. Richter, thanks a lot for such kind words and further for sharing your experience and helping out others. Appreciate it.

  2. Hi. Am using the US99820a version. I used the downgrade to nougat optional like cfyou stated using DL partition and then the upgrade to pie using the refurbish option but it gets stuck on the LG V30+ logo.
I tried the methods that was stated in the link you posted that helps to get out of boot loop and into download mode and I repeated the same downgrade and upgrade options several more times (I even tried DL partition option at a point instead of refurbish for pie) but still gets stuck after flashing pie on it.

Does this mean pie can’t run on my phone and I’ll just have to stick with Oreo?
Or is there something else that can be done about it?

I’ll very much appreciate your feedback.

  3. Hello, i have LG V30+ US998 and it’s in oreo. and i want to try update to pie is the cellular blocked ? because im in Indonesia. Thanks:)

    1. Hi. So you mean that the mobile carrier on your US998 has been unlocked to use on an Indonasian network, right?

  4. Hi, I purchased a V30+ US998 and am seriously regretting it. I had no idea I’d be stuck like this with a severely outdated, security liability of a phone (THANKS, LG!).

Problem is, I do not use Windows. Haven’t for many years. It will be a pain (especially amidst this pandemic) to find a Win machine to use also. Should I just sell this thing? I REALLY like the HiFi quad DAC…the sole reason I bought this thing. But I’m seeing that Win on a vm has caused many other users issues. Also, this would be my first crack at any kind of mobile firmware alteration. At all.

Maybe I bit off more than I can chew here? What do you think?

    1. I failed to mention…Linux, run Linux. Is there an equivalant to LGUP for any flavor of Linux?

  5. Never thought I could do it but I did it!!!! With your incredibly easy step by step instructions I successfully updated my (LG V30+ US998) to Pie)))) Did the Master Reset and Downgrade to 7.1.2 and All and finally Upgraded to Pie and Master Reseted again. My friend thank you sooo much. 😆 Lol I can finally play Grid Autosport😄😄😄. Pie on the V30+ is just super optimized and blazing fast. No problems for me……Better than Oreo I must say.

    1. Thank you for such kind words, Kevin! I am happy that this guide proved helpful to you.

Yes, Pie is surely a nice step-up over Oreo in terms of almost everything. Cheers!

  6. So… do you think that there will be a page like this to upgrade our V30’s to Android 10, next? I’m hoping yes!

    1. If LG releases the Android 10 update for the phone, I will surely create a tutorial for that.

The LG V30 came with Android 7.1.2 Nougat out-of-the-box and has already received two major Android upgrades as Android Oreo and Pie. Normally, phones are guaranteed two major Android upgrades and a year of monthly security updates after that. So, if they follow the same regime, Android 10 for LG V30 is unlikely to happen.

  7. AWESOME! Thank you! I’ve had the unlocked US998 version for a few years now and was SO frustrated at LG’s lack of support for the unlocked phones! WTF!!! I recently bought a new V30 when I water damaged my original phone. It was a T-Mobile version, which I was okay with since I’m a satisfied T-Mobile customer. I took my water damaged V30 in for repair last week. Was told that it was going to be more than it was worth and that I should buy a new phone. I had already done that, but I was still a little irked, so I wrapped the older phone in a paper towel and shoved it in a bag of rice and left it out in the afternoon sun to bake for a couple of days. Happily, my original V30 came back to life and after running diagnostics, it looks like there is no permanent damage – not even to the battery. Since I had all my data backed up on the SD card, I transferred it all onto the new V30. This gave me the perfect excuse to try and finally update my original V30 to Pie and get the latest security updates. Sadly, I had to wipe out the original phone, but that’s fine because I can transfer all of the data back from the newer one. I am THRILLED to have FINALLY been able to do this and I thank you kindly for the great tutorial and all the links. The only thing that gave me a little pause was whether to use LGUPU.exe or LGUPD.exe. They both appeared identical? But I wound up going with the D version. All good. Thanks agaun!

    1. Hey Jeff, that’s quite something you went through there. Glad that the phone worked after all that effort and works fine now.

You’re welcome. Yes, those two executables are identical. You chose the right one for the job, so no worrying there. Good luck with the phone.

    1. Yes, in theory, it should work. But it will also change the radio/modem of the device which will cause problems with Sprint itself.

  8. Thanks for files and detailed instructions. I upgraded first to Nougat and then to Pie successfully on my US LG V30+. I couldn’t do the master reset successfully, but it still went through fine with the other steps. The only thing I still see is that the phone lists all blue tooth devices as “MISC” but this time with PIE it atleast gives me mac addresses of the devices. That will help me identify my bluetooth device.
    Thanks again

    1. HI Nagu. I am glad it worked out for you. I have yet to update this page with the latest Android Pie firmware. I will let you know once I have updated.

    1. Hey, this is a known problem when updating the US998 LG V30 to Pie. Please take a look at this post for tips on how to fix the boot loop.

  9. Hi, I converted H931 to US998. I have android oreo right now and i want to get android pie but im seeing alot of people saying how their LG V30 gets stuck on the logo screen. Can you please tell me how to get android pie step by step for me to understand? I also have all what i need.

    1. Hi Saqiv, I can understand the concern since the installation method for US998 model is totally different than the rest of the models.

For the instructions, refer to the instructions here.

Now, there are four important things that you need to remember:
      1) Use the Dev Patched LG UP tool (See the ‘Prerequisites’ section above) for all flashing.
      2) Perform a Master Reset (not a factory reset) as per the instructions.
      3) When flashing the Nougat KDZ first, use the ‘Partition DL’ option in the tool and select all the partitions.
      4) When flashing the Pie KDZ finally, use the ‘Refurbish’ option in the LG UP tool.

Please let me know if you face any further problems.

    2. Ok thanks but before i do that if my phone gets bricked can u tell me how to put it back in download mode?

    3. I followed all the steps and its stuck on the boot screen. does it take time to start up or…

  10. Hi I have a problem my phone is H933 variant with 20g(oreo) and I try to install pie, but in 45percent in progress appears a error: 0x2000, Invalid command response code=0x80000202 and now I`m stuck in firmware update.
I used Method 1 with lgup.
So can you help me please ?

    1. Hi Angel. Did it go through? If you still need help updating, I am here.

    1. Hi Hamza. Actually ATT does not release KDZ firmware for their devices publically. That’s why there’s no firmware file available. Have you tried manually checking for the OTA in the settings?

If nothing works, there is a workaround to get this update by converting your H931 to US998 model.

    2. Kindly refer me to the link for the conversion because my device is not displaying the update.
Also could u tell me that by changing the model number does it affect the IMEI too?

    3. Hi AL. A pretty good explanation about the procedure has been provided here on Reddit. Just follow it up to pointer #3 till the conversion.

Once you have converted the phone from H931 to US998, you can use the instructions in our guide to further install the Android Pie US998 KDZ.

And no. It does not have any impact on things like IMEI. Whatever you’re doing here is solely related to the phone’s software.

    1. Hi Robert. The error is being shown because you’re not using dev-patched LG UP tool. Please refer to pointer #4 of the “Before you proceed” section on how to properly launch the dev-patched LGUP tool on your PC.

  12. Hi Boss
    I got a korean version ( V300S ) of the LG V30.
Are there twrp flashable zip files for the korean versions?
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi, can you please share a screenshot of the ‘About phone’ section of the Settings menu?

    2. Hi. There’s not KDZ for the H931. You might want to look at this XDA thread for updating the H931 model to Pie using US998 KDZ.

    1. I flashed the European firmware for my H930DS AME based on this comment. Its all well and good but now It only shows 4g in my network status rather than 4gLTE before flashing. how do i make sure that i am on the LTE network? (i haven’t changed my sim or service provider).

    2. Hi Saboor. The VoLTE (4GLTE) feature depends on both the carrier as well as the firmware in use. I would suggest downloading the latest 1105 stock firmware from this link and installing it using the instructions provided above. After installing the update, check if it works or not.

  13. Merci maj fait d’androide 7 rom 10d vers androide 9 rom 30b lg v30+ us998. Merci encore une fois.

    1. Hi Ivan. I am happy you were able to smoothly update your V30+. Enjoy Pie now!

  14. Hi there, my device is lg v30 + us99810d (nougat 7.12), can i direcly upgrade to pie? Or must upgrade it to oreo before?

    1. Hi Jon. The instructions for the US998 are a little different. Please follow the steps as I have indicated in this comment. Since you already have 10d Nougat firmware installed, start from #3.

  15. Hi , I recently updated to Android pie for lg h930 everything works exceptionally except the mobile data , upper right it says I am connected to 4g but when I use an app that requires internet it does not seem to load like I am out of data but I am not and I even added Apn manually but nothing works . Any help would be useful

    1. Hi Shariq. Have you tried resetting the network preferences/settings from the main settings menu?

  16. Hello,

My phone is stuck at logo screen after flashing Android Pie using Method 1.

After scrolling down to the comment section I realized that i ran it in user mode.
Please delete the user mode files from this tool, if they’re going to break the phone.

Now my phone is stuck and i lost everything. i can’t switch it off.

Any solution to recover the phone?

    1. Hi Sam. Please share your phone’s model number so that I can aid you better.

    2. It’s V30+ US998
The problem was with the ROM you’ve provided.

I downloaded the Oreo ROM US99820e and flashed it and it worked!

    3. Hi again, Sam. The installation method for the US998 isn’t straightforward and quite different from the others. It was only recently that it came to my notice.

Please go through this comment for the instructions.

    4. I’ve followed those instructions but something’s still not working. It’s all fine up to step 3 (flash Nougat 10d KDZ and master reset), but then when I upload the Pie KDZ, the mobile stucks to the logo when rebooting, even after a master reset. I’ve tried several times both with “Upgrade” and “Partition DL”, first always rolling back to Nougat, but nothing changes.
      I have a US998 model

    5. Hi Joe. I am sorry, but I missed a very crucial part of the instructions. I am at fault here.

Follow all the instructions in the comment I linked. This time, while flashing the Pie KDZ, use the “Refurbish” method. Use the “Partition DL” method only for Nougat.

Let me know how it goes.

  17. i have lg v30+ H930DS region cis
which firmware should I choose? i see cis version dont have 9 pie

    1. Hi Artur. You should choose the firmware matching your phone’s model number, which is H930DS.

    2. It could. But if it doesn’t get it, you can use the KDZ method to update manually. It’s the official firmware pulled from LG servers, so don’t worry about the intergrity.

  18. Hi friends, whether this tutorial applies to my LG type: LG US998(LGUS998) aka LG V30 Plus
at the moment my android is Android version 7.1.2. Software version: US99810c, I want to update to Android Pie, can I, please answer honestly if you can.

    1. Hi Claudia. Yes, this method can be used to upgrade your US998 model to Android Pie using the KDZ method.

  19. Do we have a Bootloader Unlock for Pie in development? I could only imagine Unlocking my phone for Custom ROMs a few years from now on, when official support for the phone end.

    1. Hi. Not yet. But something might pop up in the future, considering the phone has a huge userbase when it comes to custom development.

    2. Thanks a lot for the answer! You appear to know a lot more than I do regarding the US998. Considering my phone does not update itself and I have to do it manually, where’s the best place (in case there’s one) to get updates that might come up, like revisions and security updates?

      Wishing you an amazing day.

    3. Thanks for all the kind words. For now, keep an eye out on this XDA thread. It will be updated with the latest updates when they are available.

On the other hand, I will try my best to keep this post updated with the latest KDZ files available for the LG V30/V30+.

  20. i have lg v30+ H930DS region indonesia
    which firmware should I choose?
my phone status unlockbootloader and root
if I choose method 1, will my phone lose root and trwp status?

    1. Hi. If you want to use Method 1, you will need to use ‘Partition DL’ or ‘Refurbish’ options instead of ‘Upgrade’. Also, this will wipe your phone completely, as well as TWRP and root.

Since you have TWRP, it is best to use the TWRP-flashable ROM. Consider it as a KDZ, just in a TWRP-flashable format. The ROM is untouched and will not cause any issues. Several users over at XDA have used it to upgrade.

    2. Thx Dhananjay,i have successfully update my LG with europe Zip

to find out the variant, download Aida 64 and look the system

    3. Hi Firdaus which firmware link that you use for your H930DS? Because my phone same with you thanks

    4. Hi thanks for nice sharing..
Just to make sure i also have H930DS region indonesia, i want go witj method 1, so which firmware that i should go?
      Thank you

    5. Hi Putra. You should use the one for the European market that matches your LG V30’s model number.

    6. My phone H930 DS so the link download kdz for europe H930Ds is the one that you share in the link? Because in the link you state not only H930DS for europe but if i download there are no option for choose spesifically in H930 DS i only get 1 file, is just same? Or i should find in LG website?

    7. Hi Putra. You can download the European H930DS KDZ firmware. The region of your device doesn’t matter.

    8. Which link for european market that i should choose? Because in link that you shared only one file for european market, there is no option to choose any model in european market?

  21. i have the lg-h930DS but i brought it in australia and i live in australia, so what firmware should i install

    1. Hi Rendy. Did this happen after flashing the Pie update?

Also, please let me know your phone’s model number and the exact name of the file you used to update to Pie.

    1. Hi Karthik. I recently dug through all major OEM device forums and Telegram groups to find the most stable and recommended GCam ports. I have collected them all here, including those for the V30/V30+. Please check it and let me know.

    1. Hi Sachin. Have you checked if your LG V30 Plus already supports camera2 API? I don’t think you need to enable anything. Please correct me if I am wrong.

You can check for Camera2 API support using the instructions in this guide.

  22. I tried doing this with step 4 and when it runs all I see is Model = Unknown and COM Ports = [COM5, ]

    1. Hi Kiyoshi Akira. Do you see that info in the LGUP tool? Also, did you launch the tool in developer mode?

Please let me know your phone’s model number as well.

    1. Flashing using LGUP… I used the US998 kdz for my phone.. my converted my phone from h931 to us998 so I’m not sure if that’s the reason this is happening

    2. Hi again, Jones. I believe the H931 is the ATT variant, am I right? If so, then why did you flash the US998 KDZ on the device?

I did read that users flash the US998 firmware on the said model, for the sake of getting new updates, because AT&T and Sprint do not release their firmware online. Did you perform it for the same reason?

    3. indeed its the ATT variant and unlocked one to be exact. i flashed the us998 on the h931 to get new updates but nothing so far and that was a while back. i flashed the us998 kdz because i thought since i converted it that it would work

    4. Hi again, Jones.

Did you use the LG UP dev mode tool in both the situations (while flashing Nougat KDZ and Pie KDZ)?

Also, did you use the “Partition DL” option when flashing the Nougat KDZ and “Refurbish” option when flashing the Pie KDZ?

Lastly, did you perform a master reset using the instructions that I linked above? Both after flashing Nougat and after flashing Pie?

    5. That clears it up.

I tried doing some research on the same and it came to my attention that the US998 KDZ flashing is a bit different than the other models. In brief, you cannot flash the Pie KDZ directly. It needs to be done in a specific manner.

According to ChazzMatt, who shared the download links to the KDZ files, you will need to do the following to install Android Pie US998 KDZ:
      1) Download the Nougat 10d KDZ file from here.
      2) Using the Dev Patched LGUP tool in this post, flash the Nougat KDZ to your phone. Use the ‘Partition DL’ option in LGUP, instead of ‘Upgrade’.
      3) Once done perform a Master Reset using the instructions here. Note that a Master Reset is different than a factory reset.
      4) Boot your phone to the OS welcome screen.
      5) Power off your phone and then flash the Pie KDZ provided here. Use the “Refurbish” mode in the dev patched LGUP tool.
      6) Perform a Master Reset again (See the link in #3).

Finally, reboot your phone into the updated OS.

Note that you will have to launch and use the patched LGUP tool linked above, to flash both Nougat and Pie KDZ firmware files. See pointer #4 in the “Before you proceed” section of this post.

    6. Followed the instructions and still got stuck on the LG start up screen sigh

    7. I follow the step here until step 5 and the phone boot into Android 9 already. IS it necessary to perform step 6?

    8. I am having the same problem. Just switched from AT&T to Verizon. I followed the Frankenstein method (1. Flashed VS996 Nougat, 2. Master Reset, and 3. Flashed Pie using both Refurbish and Partition DL mode); both gave me the same result. After the red Hello, I get the Verizon with four animating dots @ full screen brightness. I let it sits for 30 minutes and nothing happen. I repeated the steps above and replaced step 3 with Oreo and it works fine. Then I perform an OTA update. Update 13 was applied okay, but Update 14 included Pie and after installing the update and reboot; it is stuck on the Verizon screen again. I also tried US998 Pie and it had the same problem.

Has anyone managed to get VS996 Pie working on H931 phone?

    9. Hey, I think it’s better off with US998 firmware than VS996, because I couldn’t find anything for the latter.

Have you tried the Frankenstein method to convert directly to US998 and then upgrade to Pie using the instructions here?

    1. Hi Giri. Did you launch the LGUP tool in the correct manner? Check pointer #4 of the “Before you proceed” section.

    2. Hey thanks for the reply,

And yes i did, i turn on the developer mode before i ran the lgup

    3. Hi. Did you try downloading the update KDZ file again?

Now that I see the screenshot you provided in-depth, I could see that the process started successfully but failed at 4%. This could be an indication of an incomplete file.

Okay, so whilst I was writing this comment I did some more research and found out that you will first need to flash Nougat KDZ, perform a master reset, and then flash the Pie KDZ.

The explanation and instructions for the same could be found in this post. Please let me know how it goes so that I can add the relevant info.

    1. Hi JYHX. Good luck! Just make sure that you download the KDZ for your VS998 model and follow the instructions as stated. Do not miss any part of the guide.

    2. Hi Dhananjay, nice to meet you here. I am about to confuse why my LG V30+ Indonesian region doesnt get Pie update till now.
Can I flash using your method above?

    3. Hi. Yes, you can. Simply flash the Pie KDZ according to your phone’s model number.

  23. hi, I have a problem with the LGUP application.
the problem is: LGUP can’t load the model
I followed the instructions and connected to the cellphone but it still didn’t work.
Previously, I had managed to install the OREO android version US988 without any constraints. but now a problem like this arises. what’s the solution? thank you

    1. Hi Bayu Ryan. You’d need to launch the LGUP tool in developer mode. See pointer #4 in the “Before you proceed” section.

    1. Hi Isaac. I wouldn’t recommend that. Could you please let me know the exact model number of your phone?

  24. Thank you so much for help with this! This is the only site I could find that described this process, and it was so clear and easy to follow. I’ll make sure to refer this site whenever I can, much appreciation.

    1. Hi! Thanks a lot for such kind words. I am glad the instructions here proved useful to you.

    1. Hi Imaad. Did you use the Indian KDZ firmware file as provided above? Also, did you follow the exact steps as stated?

Do note that the first boot after the update could sometimes take as much as 5-10 minutes.

    2. Hello. I’m attempting to install Pie. I have an LS 998 which I frankensteined into a US988. Have it working perfectly on Oreo. rooted with TWRP. Sooo. I tried to use method 2 which I got from XDAs website. (by the way I have years rooting several phones, so I’m no noob.
Anyway that first time when I did it something went wrong. When I rebooted back to TWRP (second to last step) I got a little droid with the words “No Command” so I immediately restored a back up and went back to Oreo.
So, this time using your guide I figured I would redownloaded the ZIP using a mirror hoping that it was the file that might have been corrupt. This time when I rebooted TWRP got back into TWRP but when I reboot into system nothing happens. I get stuck on the LG logo. Over 20 min. So this morning I restored but I really want Pie. Had this phone on Stock Pie and In liked it. Now I want root and TWRP. Can you help?

    3. Hi, Rise.

The first time when you saw the “no command” screen (Which is the stock recovery) is because flashing that zip replaced TWRP with the stock recovery.

Now, the next time after you flash the Pie TWRP zip, did you also flash the RCT3 remover and Magisk zip files, and formatted Data in TWRP?

    4. yes I did everything as described> every single instruction followed to the T. Nothing. I’m starting to give up hope. Ready to just stay stock Pie. (cannot directly reply to your reply.)

    5. Hi again. Please visit this XDA thread and give it a read from the first post. It includes the instructions for flashing the Pie TWRP flashable zip correctly. Just follow them and see if it makes a difference.

  25. Is there an (easy) way to roll back to the previous version. V9 broke call recording and an app I wrote – I can probably fix the app I wrote but the call recording is extremely important to me.

    1. Hi. Google completely blocked native call recording in Android Pie. The only way to use call recording would be by rooting your phone. Please read this report by XDA, it confirms the same, as well as plans of Google on building a Call Recording API for a future Android release (not Android 10).

  26. I have an unlocked v30s purchased from B&H photo which, from all appearances, was going to be forever stuck on a security update of March 2018 and Oreo. It didn’t appear LG was going to ever update anything but this did the trick. Thank you so much for a pathway to Android Pie and an August 2019 security update! A 3.2 gig download so be patient and be patient while the phone updates to 9.0. It spun quite a while which made me nervous but it running fine. Thanks again.

    1. Hi Ron. Considering your phone was running March 2018 patch, it’s a disgrace for a special edition device.

You’re welcome! And I am glad this worked for you.

    2. Follow up on installation of Pie on my V30s. I had a glitch show up where swiping from screen-to-screen had a slight delay and the screen being swiped to would snap into place. In other words, the transition was no longer smooth. Not a huge deal but annoying. I found a comment suggesting doing a backup using the LG Bridge tool which can be installed on a PC. I did the backup (no need to do a restore) and so far it appears to have worked. Screen transitions are as smooth as ever. Time will tell if that remains true.

    3. Hi Ron! Thanks for the tip. XDA RD ChazzMatt also referred to the same solution in the source threads. I have added a section (See the Red-colored note box) with the said fix.

  27. Works flawlessly on US998 model. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to have Android 9.0!

    1. Hi Javish! Thanks a lot for the appreciation. Whatever we do, we do it for our readers, to help them in any possible manner.

    2. Hi, I’m using an LG V30+ (LG- US998) running android oreo, and I had been trying to install android pie, but I keep getting a error message (Error: 0x81000302, Please use latest DLL
LAF Protocol version is not match DLL = 112234224
Device = 113233952) in the LGUP tool window, also, in the LGUP tool window in the process section I only have 4 selections, (refurbish, upgrade, FOTA upgrade, phone setting) while your screenshot of LGUP window has more selections, can you tell me what I am doing wrong? Thank you.

    3. Hi Andrew. See pointer #4 under “Before you proceed” section to properly launch the LGUP tool and then follow the installation instructions.

    4. Thank you very much, I was about to reinstall the LGUP tool and found that I missed a step, now I was finally able to update to Android pie, thank you so much for the tools and instructions, very grateful.

    5. Hi again Andrew! I am glad I was able to be of your help. And thanks for the appreciation.

    1. Hi Kelvin. I am afraid not yet. The update is only available in Korea and Europe yet. Once it is out for the US model, I will be updating this post.

    2. Yes, however, there’s no news from LG yet. Once they start the rollout, we will be able to get our hands on the KDZ file for manual updating.

    3. Yes, Manish, it does. Users over at XDA have confirmed that VoLTE works over Vodafone and Airtel. So, it should probably work for Reliance Jio as well.

    4. I would love to get my hands on the new update soon. Hope this is correct.

    1. Yes, it is now. As soon as LG pushed the updates, we got hands-on the official KDZ firmware file for the US998 variant, as well as other US variants like T-Mobile, etc.
