Before You Begin
Before you head to the installation instructions, there are a few things we suggest you do.
- Take a Backup: Manually installing updates does not erase any data on your phone. However, to be precautious and for safeguarding, make sure that you take a backup of all your data stored on the device.
You could take a look at our article on backing up different types of data stored on Android devices. - Install OnePlus USB Drivers (if required): Download the latest OnePlus USB drivers and install them on your Windows computer.
These will only be required if you download the ROM package on your PC and need to transfer it to your phone’s storage during the installation instructions. - Charge your OnePlus 8T: Charge your phone to a minimum of 40-50% battery level. This will ensure that it doesn’t suddenly power off due to low battery during the software update process.
How to Manually Install OxygenOS Updates on OnePlus 8T
The stock OxygenOS software includes an in-built update option called ‘Local Upgrade’. This option is located in the phone’s settings menu and can be used to manually install OxygenOS ROM files. Now, follow the steps below to manually install the latest OxygenOS update on your OnePlus 8T.
- First, download the OxygenOS full ROM/OTA package you want to install.
- Connect your OnePlus 8T to the computer and transfer the update package to the root directory (outside all folders) of the phone’s internal storage.
- Once the file has been placed in the correct location, open the “Settings” menu, and scroll down to the bottom.
- Select “System” and then “System updates”.
- Press the cogwheel icon on the top-right of the screen and select the “Local Upgrade” option.
- The system will automatically detect and fetch the OxygenOS full ROM file.

I wish to downgrade it to 11.0.5.6 or the 11.0.2 version as the current version is too buggy and has loads of issues on my device.

Jatin, you could use the MSMDownload tool to downgrade your OnePlus 8T and flash the OxygenOS version you wish to use.
While the main use of MSM is to unbrick devices, it is known to be used for downgrading as well. Before you use it, make sure that you take a complete backup of all your data as it will be erased.
One more thing, have you tried performing a factory data reset on the existing OxygenOS version? Sometimes, unusual bugs/issues could be caused after updates. I would generally advise performing a factory reset first and see if it makes a difference. Keep the MSM tool as the last resort.
